When AODI launched the EmpowerHer Initiative in 2025, it addressed a critical gap: the underrepresentation of women in leadership across Africa. The program specifically targets young women at transition points—secondary to university, university to career—providing focused mentorship and leadership development.
The first cohort of 25 participants came from six African countries, representing diverse backgrounds and ambitions. United by their potential and drive, they embarked on a six-month journey of structured mentorship, peer networking, and skills development.
"EmpowerHer isn't just about individual success," explains Program Director Ngozi Eze. "It's about building a community of women who support each other and create change together. Every participant becomes part of a lasting network."
Early outcomes are promising: 80% of participants report increased confidence in pursuing leadership roles, and several have already secured internships or academic opportunities through mentor connections.
